TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A person was killed in a shootout with law enforcement early Wednesday morning in Northport.

Captain Jack Kennedy from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit reported that a suspect who died was leading a police pursuit involving Hale County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Moundville officers. The chase entered Tuscaloosa County at approximately 2:30 a.m., prompting Tuscaloosa authorities to join in. Officers managed to deflate the tires of the suspect’s vehicle near Northport successfully.

“The vehicle came to a halt at Bell Auto Parts, located at 410 Bridge Ave in Northport, AL,” stated Kennedy. “At this location, both the suspect and law enforcement exchanged gunfire, resulting in the suspect’s death.”

Kennedy did not specify the agency of the officer/deputy who killed the suspect.

An investigation into the shooting is being conducted by investigators not associated with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
