Two baby boys with same name born minutes apart at same hospital

Just 11 minutes apart, two families celebrated the arrival of Myles and Miles.

BRANDON, Florida — On an October day at a Hillsborough County hospital, two families, previously strangers, welcomed baby boys sharing the same name. Within mere minutes, these newborns made their entrance at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, creating a unique connection.

Despite being born to different parents, in separate rooms, Myles and Miles are united by the timing of their births. On October 27, Myles Retzer from Riverview was the first to arrive at 12:43 p.m., weighing in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces, and measuring 20 inches long. Following closely, at 12:54 p.m., Miles Bartz from Plant City was born, weighing 4 pounds, 11 ounces, and measuring 18.5 inches.

Before heading home, the families had the chance to meet and commemorate the occasion with a photograph.

“This was such a special and unique moment to be part of,” remarked Dr. Emily Richter, an obstetrician at the hospital. “In all my years, I can’t recall witnessing two babies with the same name born so close together. Birth stories are always memorable, but this is one these families and our team won’t forget.”

Birth stories are always memorable, but this is one these families and our team won’t forget.”

Hospital staff said both of the babies were born healthy and ready to take on the world.

Lauren Youngberg, a nurse manager, said the heartwarming coincidence also brought joy to the staff.

“It reminds us why we do what we do. This is a moment we will remember and treasure, and who knows, maybe these boys will grow up together or even graduate side-by-side one day,” she said.
