SOUTHWEST, Va. (WJHL) — The 2025 football season signifies a major turning point for Hurley, Grundy, and Twin Valley high schools as they transition into the newly formed Southern Gap High School.
Looking back at memorable moments, Grundy High School clinched a victory against Lebanon High School in 1997 with a score of 14-6. This win was under the leadership of coach Greg Rowe, who had a significant impact on the team for over ten years.
In 2004, Twin Valley High School had an impressive season, securing third place in the Black Diamond District. Coached by Brian Moore, the Panthers ended the year with a 12-4 record. A highlight of that season was their matchup against the Twin Springs Titans during the VHSL tournament on November 20, captured in the Rewind footage.
Hurley High School enjoyed a standout season in 2016, finishing with an impressive 12-1 record and securing the top spot in the Black Diamond District. Under the guidance of coach Greg Tester, the Rebels delivered a memorable playoff performance against Eastside on November 11, as seen in the Rewind footage.
As a heartfelt farewell to Hurley High School’s storied history, the 2025 football team and cheerleaders joined arms for a final walk across Smiley Ratliff Field. This emotional moment was captured by Buchanan County Sports.
