A woman was discovered dead at a rooming house on West 14th Street in Jacksonville on Monday afternoon, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. This tragic finding occurred three days after the woman was last seen in the property’s front yard.

According to JSO Sgt. Highfill, officers arrived at the scene around 1:10 p.m. in response to reports of a woman found not breathing on the 1300 block of West 14th Street. Upon their arrival, they found her unresponsive inside the rooming house.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was called to the location and subsequently declared the woman deceased, Sgt. Highfill confirmed.

In an interview with First Coast News, Sgt. Highfill revealed that the woman had last been seen on Friday afternoon in the home’s front yard. On Monday, her landlord reportedly forced open the door to her room, leading to the discovery of her unresponsive state.

“At this moment, the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain unclear,” stated Sgt. Highfill. He added that the other residents of the rooming house are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

“The circumstances surrounding the victim’s death are unknown at this time,” Highfill said. “The other residents at the rooming house are cooperating with the investigations.”

Highfill said detectives with JSO’s homicide and crime scene units are conducting the investigation into the woman’s death.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
