The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to steer clear of the US-1 vicinity close to Abbots Way as authorities hunt for a suspect who is considered potentially dangerous after evading a traffic stop.
In ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla., law enforcement officials have issued an alert regarding a “possibly violent” individual who managed to escape custody during a traffic stop. The suspect is believed to be in the area near US-1 and Abbots Way, prompting the warning.
The incident unfolded on the afternoon of Thursday, December 4, when a suspect evaded a traffic stop on Interstate 95 near International Golf Parkway. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reports that following a failed pit maneuver, the suspect took off on foot, commandeered a van, and sped down IGP toward US-1, abandoning the vehicle near Abbots Way.
The Sheriff’s Office has declared this an “active situation,” advising residents and commuters to avoid the area for their safety.
