Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has opened up about the emotional turmoil she experienced after being shot by Los Angeles police during a standoff at her home. Lauren described the event as a moment when her “world fell to pieces.”
Lauren, who is 52, initiated divorce proceedings from her husband, known for his work with the ’90s rock band, earlier this month. This decision came nine months after the confrontation with police, during which she allegedly fired a weapon and was subsequently arrested on attempted murder charges.
In a legal turn of events, Lauren has been allowed to participate in a two-year mental health diversion program. Successful completion of this program could potentially lead to the dismissal of two felony gun charges that were filed against her.
Speaking publicly for the first time since the incident, Lauren shared her story with Rolling Stone, revealing how the ordeal brought her to a significant “crisis point” in her life.
“My world fell to pieces around me in a heartbeat,” Lauren reflected. “It’s as if I spent my whole life carefully arranging a deck of cards, only for them to be thrown up in the air. I’m still waiting to see how they will fall.”
A bestselling author, Lauren is also a survivor of sex trafficking and domestic violence. She noted that the standoff with police reawakened her post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), forcing her to confront painful memories from her past.
Although she said she could not comment much about the shooting and her case, the author did admit that her ‘impulse was self-defense’ and that she was ‘doing the best I knew to protect my family.’
Lauren added that now she is working to be her ‘best self’ as she navigates her ‘painful’ divorce from Shriner.

Lauren filed for divorce on December 5, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason. She had been married to Weezer bassist Shriner since 2005.
The couple share two adopted children, who are 17 and 13, with Lauren seeking joint legal and physical custody.
She is also seeking spousal support and is trying to prevent the court from awarding Shriner any. It is not known if the two have a prenup.
She told Rolling Stone how even though she ‘served’ Shriner, the media coverage of the divorce has left her feeling ‘hurt.’
Lauren claimed that she spent a ‘day under the covers, blocking out the noise’ as she tried to cope.
She added that despite the looming end of their marriage, her soon-to-be ex remains her ‘best friend.’
‘We still have beautiful kids together and have always really supported each other in our various transformations,’ she shared.
The authorities were on the scene because a hit-and-run suspect had been reported in the area

On April 9, Lauren was shot in the arm in her LA backyard and later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after she supposedly pointed a weapon and fired at cops, whom she claimed to have confused with armed criminals on her property.
The authorities were on the scene because a hit-and-run suspect had been reported in the area – allegedly stripping down to his boxer shorts and jumping in a resident’s swimming pool in a bizarre attempt to dodge his arrest.
While searching for the suspect, LAPD encountered the armed author and the situation rapidly escalated into a shootout.
Lauren was treated for the non-life-threatening arm injury and was later booked into jail. She was freed on $1 million bail and a 9mm firearm was seized from her home.
The LAPD claimed she shot first and LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman charged her with felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm and felony discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.
She pleaded not guilty to both felony gun charges and later entered a mental health diversion program that, if completed fully, would see the case dismissed by the court.
Lauren and Shriner married in 2005 and have two adopted children together. She filed for divorce from the 90s rocker earlier this month
