On Sunday afternoon, police in Atlanta swiftly responded to a shooting incident at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which resulted in one person being injured.
Authorities reported that the wounded individual, a male, appeared to have shot himself.
The shooting unfolded in the pre-security zone of the South Terminal. According to police reports, and as detailed by Fox 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred near an escalator adjacent to the baggage claim area at approximately 3:30 p.m.
“Officers were dispatched to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where they discovered a male with an apparent gunshot wound,” the Atlanta Police Department communicated to Fox News Digital.

Following the shooting, officers promptly secured the vicinity near the South Terminal escalators. They also ensured the firearm was secured and confirmed that no other individuals were harmed during the incident.
Police said officers quickly secured the scene, including the firearm and the surrounding area, and confirmed that no other individuals were injured.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was alert, conscious and breathing at the time of transport, authorities said.

Officials have not released information about what led to the incident.
APD said officers are still on the scene and the investigation remains ongoing.
