A group suspected of being a hit squad, which allegedly includes two teenage boys, is now facing multiple charges after authorities reportedly discovered two firearms in a taxi.

Police intercepted the vehicle on Old Windsor Road in Old Toongabbie, approximately 30 kilometers west of Sydney, around 9:40 a.m. on Monday.

Following the stop, a 20-year-old man was transported to Westmead Hospital to receive medical attention for minor injuries. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody at Parramatta Police Station.

The teenager has been charged with 11 offenses, one of which is participating in a criminal group and contributing to criminal activities.

He was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in a Children’s Court on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old faces 13 charges and was also refused bail, with a court appearance set for Tuesday.

After searching the taxi, police allegedly seized two firearms and a Dedicated Encrypted Criminal Communication Device (DECCD).

‘(The two men) had two loaded firearms, were on their way to a location where we believe four stolen vehicles containing cloned number plates were,’ Detective Acting Superintendent Brad Abdy told reporters on Tuesday.

The arrests are part of ongoing investigations into a public shooting on Loura Street in Tallawong, northwest of Sydney, on November 27.

Officers were told two people had attempted to enter a home using a sledgehammer before firing several ‘shots’ into the property last month.

Police said the attackers fled in a Mazda at the time. A firearm, bleach, a magazine and a mobile phone were allegedly found inside the abandoned vehicle.

About 11am on Monday, police arrested a 25-year-old man on Mountford Avenue, Guildford. Two phones were seized, including one believed to be a DECCD.

He was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 on Tuesday.

Just half an hour later, detectives discovered four allegedly stolen vehicles at a home in Rouse Hill, about 40km north-west of Sydney.

Two men aged 18 and 23 and a 17-year-old boy – allegedly ran from the property but were arrested nearby and taken to Riverstone Police Station.

Police established a crime scene and raided the house.

They allegedly seized five firearms, thousands of rounds of high-calibre ammunition, multiple fake number plates and two ballistic vests.

The four vehicles, which also allegedly had cloned number-plates attached, were seized for forensic examination.

The trio arrested at Rouse Hill were all charged with 11 offences, including four counts each of possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit.

The 23-year-old man was charged with an additional eight offences in relation to his alleged involvement in the public place shooting at Tallawong earlier this year.

The two men were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 on Tuesday, while the 17-year-old was refused bail to appear before a children’s court.

‘I don’t think they… have affiliations with any particular criminal organisation,’ Det Act Supt Brad Abdy said.

‘I believe they were more likely a contracted group who undertake various crimes on behalf of other serious organised crime organisations.

‘It’s obviously concerning for police where youths are being recruited in to more serious criminal activity by other crime gangs.’

Det Act Supt Brad Abdy said the arrests made on Monday were important in dismantling part of an alleged contract criminal group.

‘It’s extremely notable, especially (regarding) the high caliber ammunition. That ammunition is obviously extremely dangerous,’ he said.

‘The firearms – multiple pistols, semi-automatic pistols and a revolver – were located.

‘As we know, revolvers and these semi-automatic pistols are large (and) are used in many organised crime murders throughout Sydney.

‘So this seizure certainly hinders that group and certainly dismantles that criminal syndicate.’
