Courtney Shaw, aged 47, faces charges of felony shoplifting, with court documents outlining the allegations. Local news outlet WSB, an ABC affiliate, reported that Shaw allegedly took over $900 in merchandise from the Walmart located on Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock, a town approximately 30 miles from Atlanta.

The details of the incident report reveal that Shaw is suspected of committing these thefts on 98 separate occasions between November 2 and December 31, 2025. Law enforcement officials claim she used a method of stacking two items together, scanning only one, and then placing both items into her bag or cart before exiting the store. The specific items she is accused of taking have not been disclosed.

Shaw has been serving as the assistant principal at Free Home Elementary School in Cumming since 2024, a role she took on after an eight-year tenure as assistant principal at Bascomb Elementary School. Her career in education spans over two decades, according to the school’s official website.

In response to these allegations, the Cherokee County School District has placed Shaw on administrative leave while they conduct an internal investigation alongside the ongoing criminal proceedings.

In a statement to WSB, the Cherokee County School District said Shaw is on administrative leave pending the outcome of its internal investigation and criminal proceedings.

“Maintaining the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority and inappropriate conduct will never be tolerated,” the district told the outlet.

Cops arrested Shaw on Jan. 19 and took her to the Cherokee County Jail where she has since posted a nearly $5,000 bond. Her next court date is set for March 5.
