U.S. authorities have taken into custody Zubayr Al-Bakoush, who is suspected of being a key figure in the 2012 assault on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

The arrest was announced on Friday by Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro. Bondi stated that Al-Bakoush faces several charges, including murder, terrorism, and arson, all linked to the 2012 incident.

“Zubayr Al-Bakoush will now answer to American justice on our soil. We are committed to prosecuting this alleged terrorist to the full extent of the law,” Bondi declared on Friday. “This case should remind everyone: committing a crime against Americans anywhere in the world will not go unanswered. Under President Trump’s Justice Department, we will locate you. It may not be immediate, but it is inevitable. You can try to hide, but we will find you.”

FBI Director Patel mentioned that Al-Bakoush was detained “overseas,” though he did not disclose the specific location of the arrest.
