WATCH: Officer pulls woman from burning car after reported carjacking-turned-crash in Jacksonville

In a harrowing incident on Sunday, a Jacksonville woman experienced the terrifying ordeal of having her car stolen with her baby still inside, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. This incident quickly escalated into a dramatic scene of rescue and pursuit.

In Jacksonville, Florida, the day took a distressing turn when a man forcibly removed a woman from her car at the intersection of Old Middleburg Road and 103rd Street in the Jacksonville Heights neighborhood. The victim recounted to police that the assailant threw her out of her vehicle and sped away, unbeknownst to him, with her one-year-old daughter still inside.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the abduction report on February 8. Officers quickly located the stolen vehicle just a few streets away, initiating a chase that ended tragically when the suspect collided with another car.

Dramatic body camera footage from the JSO captures the aftermath of this collision, where officers rushed to the scene to rescue a woman injured in the crash. Her car, now engulfed in flames, adds a vivid backdrop to the officers’ heroic efforts.

This incident underscores not only the immediate threat posed by the carjacking but also highlights the broader impact on innocent bystanders caught up in the suspect’s reckless escape attempt. The community remains on edge as they await further developments in the ongoing investigation.

Just a few streets over, JSO says officers found the stolen car. During a pursuit, the suspect crashed into another car.

Inside was a 14-year-old, who police say escaped shortly after the crash, and a woman still stuck.

Body camera video shows an officer, identified as Almin Residovic, rush to the car, pull the woman out and extinguish her burning hair.

At this point, nearly the entirety of the car is in flames.

“I got to her just in time,” Resinovic said to another responding officer. The woman was later hospitalized for her injuries.

On scene, police arrested Richard Younger, 34, and recovered the uninjured one-year-old from her car seat.

Younger is charged with carjacking, false imprisonment of a child, and several other charges related to the crash. As of publication, he is due to be arraigned in court on March 3, 2026.

“After speaking with the woman on the phone this afternoon, she tells us she is incredibly grateful to be alive and for the quick actions taken by Officer Residovic,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post Thursday. “The woman continues to recover.”
