“Why must families continually witness political interests being prioritized over the welfare of children?” Shaw expressed passionately to The Post.

She went on to say, “The school board of Los Angeles Unified has the power to act when leadership jeopardizes student success. Nevertheless, they continue to protect Carvalho, despite his problematic past in previous districts and the current serious investigations. It is the students who suffer the consequences.”

In an attempt to calm the situation, newly appointed Acting Superintendent Andres Chait addressed the public before the board’s closed meeting, aiming to reassure the community.

“As acting superintendent, my main focus is to maintain stability and ensure that Los Angeles Unified stays committed to our fundamental mission,” Chait stated, emphasizing the need for safety, consistency, and unbroken educational progress.

But shaw said that was not enough.

“More than half of LAUSD students cannot read or write at grade level,” she said. “Parents reach out with calls and messages desperate, frustrated, begging for help while bureaucracy protects insiders.
Enough.”

The board voted unanimously on Friday to place Carvalho on paid administrative leave pending investigation, with Board President Scott Schmerelson immediately installing Chait in the role.
