Chappell Roan banned from Brazilian concert after leaving kid in tears

Chappell Roan has found herself banned from performing at the Todo Mundo no Rio festival following claims that she allegedly sent her security team to intimidate Jude Law’s 11-year-old daughter. The incident reportedly took place after the young girl walked past the singer.

The 28-year-old artist, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, was in Sao Paulo for a performance at Lollapalooza. During her stay, Ada, Jude Law’s daughter, spotted the pop star at a hotel and approached her breakfast table for a closer look.

It is alleged that Roan then instructed her security personnel to confront the child. The accusation comes from the girl’s stepfather, Jorginho Frello, a 34-year-old soccer player. Ada is the daughter of the British actor Jude Law and Catherine Harding.

The incident quickly drew the attention of Rio de Janeiro’s Mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere. In response, he announced that Roan would be prohibited from performing at the upcoming Todo Mundo no Rio concert, sharing this decision on social media platform X.

“As long as I’m in charge, @ChappelRoan will not perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! I doubt Shakira would act this way! By the way, @FrelloJorginho, consider your little one an honored guest at the May event!” Cavaliere stated, as translated from Portuguese. The festival is slated for May, and Cavaliere’s term as mayor extends until 2028.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Roan’s representatives for comment regarding the mayor’s decision.

Roan hit back against Frello’s narrative, which he’d shared on social media, with a video apology posted to Instagram Stories on Saturday.

She said the security guard who approached Frello’s family was ‘not my personal security.’

The singer clarified: ‘I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything.

‘It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions.’

Since her rise to stardom in 2024, Roan has been outspoken about the pitfalls of fame, publicly rejecting the idea that she should accept unwanted attention.

She has had a sometimes contentious relationship with her fans, with the artist previously calling out behavior that she considered ‘creepy’ and ‘invasive’ in social media posts.

But she said in Saturday’s post, ‘I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. That is crazy. I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something, that you would do something. If you felt uncomfortable that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.’

In August 2024 Roan posted a video to TikTok in which she said, ‘I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous.

‘It’s weird how people think that you know a person because you see them online and you listen to the art they make…I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, okay?’

She followed that up with a lengthy post to Instagram, saying, ‘I want to be an artist for a very long time. I’ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you s**t.’

Roan continued: ‘When I’m on stage, when I’m performing, when I’m in drag, when I’m at a work event, when I’m doing press…I am at work. Any other circumstance, I am not in work mode. I am clocked out.’

She added, ‘If you’re still asking, “Well, if you didn’t want this to happen, then why did you choose a career where you knew you wouldn’t be comfortable with the outcome of success?” – understand this: I embrace the success of the project, the love I feel, and the gratitude I have. What I do not accept are creepy people, being touched, and being followed.’

The rising entertainer has earned a reputation for being a complainer, with fans suggesting she change her name to ‘Chappell Moan.’
