The Department of Defense has unveiled footage showing U.S. military forces intercepting an oil tanker that was under sanctions in the Indian Ocean during the night.

The vessel, named M/T Tifani, had left the port city of Galle in Sri Lanka on Saturday, heading towards Singapore, as per data from the maritime tracking site, VesselFinder.

The Pentagon announced on X that the operation to board the tanker was carried out “without incident,” although it did not specify if any of the ship’s cargo was confiscated.

“As we have made clear, we will pursue global maritime enforcement efforts to disrupt illicit networks and interdict sanctioned vessels providing material support to Iran—anywhere they operate,” the statement read.

“International waters are not a refuge for sanctioned vessels. The Department of War will continue to deny illicit actors and their vessels freedom of maneuver in the maritime domain.”
