In a concerning incident that unfolded in Mahwah, New Jersey, an 8-year-old boy suffered injuries after being attacked by a beaver at a local park. The unsettling encounter occurred on Sunday evening, around 6 p.m., while the child was enjoying a fishing outing along the park’s shoreline.
According to police reports, the beaver emerged unexpectedly from the water, charging at the young boy. In his attempt to flee, the child stumbled, allowing the beaver to bite him on the upper thigh. The attack continued until a nearby family acquaintance intervened, bravely confronting the aggressive animal. He managed to fend off the beaver by hitting and kicking it, causing the creature to retreat temporarily.
Despite the intervention, the beaver remained in the vicinity, circling the area ominously after the attack. Responding swiftly, Mahwah EMS arrived at the scene and transported the injured boy to a hospital. However, at the time of reporting, details regarding his condition were not immediately available.
The incident has sparked wider concern as police investigations revealed additional reports, supported by online video evidence, suggesting that the same beaver may have approached or even attacked other park visitors earlier in the day. The park community remains on alert as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
