Jasmine Crockett claims killer Karmelo Anthony was just a 'scared black boy'

In the aftermath of a controversial court ruling, Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas has found herself in the spotlight, making headlines for her remarks about Karmelo Anthony, a convicted murderer. Anthony, sentenced to 35 years for the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old at a Texas high school track and field event, has become a focal point for Crockett’s outspoken comments.

Crockett, who previously ran for the Senate, has been vocal in her quest for leniency in Anthony’s case, describing him as a “scared black boy” who deserved more “mercy.” Her statements have sparked widespread attention, often going viral for their contentious nature as she seeks to downplay or justify Anthony’s actions.

In a conversation with TMZ, Crockett questioned the severity of Anthony’s sentence. “Thirty-five years for a kid who simply took shelter from the rain under a tent that wasn’t his team’s? And who resisted being put back out in the rain by someone he didn’t know?” she argued, referencing Anthony’s conviction for first-degree murder.

Crockett drew parallels between Anthony’s situation and instances of police shootings involving unarmed black teenagers. “Many people can’t understand the experience of living as a black person in this country,” she explained. “While trained officers often receive the benefit of the doubt in shootings, this frightened black boy received little mercy or humanity when he expressed his fear.”

Her comments have ignited a firestorm of criticism, with audiences reacting strongly to her interview as it circulated online. The backlash has been particularly intense on social media, where the video of her discussion with a TMZ journalist outside her congressional office has been widely shared.

“This is not about black vs white…this is about a murderer….who the f–k cares if you stand out in the rain….Im an old white woman that has stood in the damn rain and never killed anyone over it,” one commenter wrote.

Here’s the latest on Karmelo Anthony’s murder conviction:

“Jasmine is always part of the problem and never part of the solution. A complete disgrace,” said another.

Others pointed out that Anthony received a relatively light sentence compared to the 99 years without parole the jury that convicted him could have imposed.

“Girl please, he only got 35 years for murder. She’s such an idiot.”

A day earlier, on an episode of her podcast “Clock It with Crockett,” the lame-duck Rep. carelessly tossed around falsehoods and cynically injected doubts about the murder itself, astonishingly even suggesting she would have stabbed Metcalf herself if she had been in Anthony’s position.

In the span of a few minutes, she downplayed the size of the knife used in the April 2, 2025 attack, implied it wasn’t a “deadly weapon” and grossly exaggerated Metcalf’s weight as 300 pounds, when in fact he weighs 200 pounds.

She also falsely suggested Metcalf had gotten “on top” of Anthony and was “beating him down,” leaving him with no choice but to defend himself with deadly force.

In fact, Anthony pulled out the knife and plunged it into Metcalf’s chest after a brief confrontation involving little more than a light shove, with even a defense witness conceding the killer was “in the wrong” in how he acted on the day of the killing.

“If a 300-pound man is beating me, like on top of me and beating me down, I’m not limited to fists,” she said, seemingly implying she too would have stabbed the high school athlete.
