RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Rex Heuermann, the Long Island serial killer who confessed to murdering eight women between 1993 and 2010, has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
On Wednesday, Judge Timothy Mazzei imposed the harshest punishment allowed under New York law: three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, followed by four additional consecutive terms of 25 years to life.
Before the sentence was delivered, Heuermann, 62, addressed the courtroom.
“I’m responsible,” he said. “The words I would say have no meaning.”
Heuermann entered guilty pleas in court to the killings of eight women in what prosecutors described as a 17-year murder spree on Long Island. (James Carbone/Newsday)
