GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Cortaisa Tranea Johnson, 23, was arrested after police said she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend with a kitchen knife.

Around 11:30 a.m. on July 5, a Gainesville Police Department officer went to UF Health Shands Hospital, where the victim reported that he had been sleeping in Johnson’s apartment at Oak Glades Apartments when an argument began. According to the victim, Johnson started crying, yelled that she hated him, and kicked him in the head. He told police he got up to leave, but Johnson allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and swung it at him; he said he was stabbed in the arm while trying to block the knife.

The responding officer noted that the victim had a small puncture wound on his bicep and a minor cut on his forearm.

A few hours later, the officer contacted Johnson at her apartment. After being read her Miranda rights, she reportedly acknowledged stabbing the victim but said she did not mean to injure him. Johnson told police the victim had backed her into a corner in the kitchen and that she was trying to get away from him; she also claimed he had punched, pushed, and slapped her multiple times both inside and outside the apartment. She then reportedly directed the officer to where the “steak” knife could be located.

According to the officer, Johnson did not have visible injuries that corroborated her version of what happened.

Johnson was charged with domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Court records indicate she has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls set her bail at $10,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
