Terror at NYC Cocktail Bar as Robbers Tie Up Staff, Steal $30K

Three masked robbers armed with a gun burst into an upscale Manhattan cocktail lounge, tied up employees in the bathrooms, and made off with nearly $30,000 in liquor, cash, and DJ gear, authorities said.

The suspects, who have not been identified, entered Obvio Cocktail Bar on East 28th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues in Nomad at about 4:00 a.m. on July 13, according to the NYPD.

One of the robbers was carrying a black pistol fitted with an extended magazine as the group forced two male employees, ages 38 and 43, into separate bathrooms inside the high-end lounge, police said.

The workers were left inside the restrooms with their hands bound using electrical cords and tape, authorities added.

The crew then stole a safe holding $7,000, DJ equipment worth about $13,000, and bottles of liquor valued at roughly $7,000, police said.

Both employees suffered redness to their wrists but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Police on Monday released images showing one suspect washing a gray 1993 Ford E-350 Econoline van allegedly used in the robbery. Investigators have since recovered the vehicle.

Obvio, a sleek modern lounge with an elegant dress code, promotes live DJ performances, craft cocktails, and an exclusive, dimly lit social-club atmosphere on its website.

Obvio, which has an upscale dinner and dessert menu, was also named to have the “martini of the year” by The New York Times in 2025.

Obvio did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

An investigation into the robbery remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
