A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in the head inside a Brooklyn business Wednesday evening, prompting grieving relatives and friends to gather nearby, where gospel music played as they mourned.
Police said Ahmir Jordan was struck by gunfire at about 8:20 p.m. on New Lots Avenue in East New York.
EMS rushed the teen to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
A 35-year-old man was also grazed in the right arm by a bullet and taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an older woman could be seen weeping behind crime scene tape.
“Why did he have to die before me? I didn’t want him to die before me. Why, oh why?” the devastated woman cried.
By late Wednesday night, loved ones remained near the scene, playing gospel music as they honored Jordan’s memory.
One neighbor, who said they have lived in the area for 12 years, said it had “been years” since a shooting occurred in the neighborhood.
“No mother should have to bury their child. Especially 17 years old,” the neighbor, who declined to provide her name, told The Post.
“That is heartbreaking. And that’s from one mother to another,” she said. “Do you know how a mother feels to come outside and have to identify your child?
“My heart goes out to that family,” she added. “That’s a baby. He was a baby.”
An employee at a homeless shelter across the street from the shooting said he “heard gunshots” from inside the building.
“I was inside the shelter and I ducked. Everybody ducked. Then I came outside to see what was going on,” the unidentified worker said.
“And I saw two men running down New Lots Avenue. They looked young, like teenagers,” he observed.
No arrests have been made as of Wednesday night, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
