A 63-year-old Brooklyn grandmother who vanished during a visit to Las Vegas has been found dead nearly two weeks after she was last seen, according to KTNV.
Alisa Goods was reported missing after she left a longtime friend’s apartment near the Las Vegas Strip on Aug. 8, saying she was headed to a nearby CVS pharmacy to shop.
Goods, a mother of five, was discovered early Thursday near Terminal 1 at Harry Reid International Airport. Police were called to the area at about 1:45 a.m. after a body was found.
Investigators later reviewed surveillance video from the day Goods disappeared that appeared to show a woman believed to be her near the airport that same afternoon, KTNV reported.
Authorities have not released a cause of death or explained how Goods came to be at the airport, leaving her relatives with painful questions as they continue to seek answers.
“Our hearts are broken. We were notified that my aunt was found—unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be. This is an unimaginable time. Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now,” Goods’ niece, Alana Calloway, said in a statement.
“We just want to thank the public for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers. We also want to thank the media for helping bring attention to this situation. This hurts so deeply. We are still trying to learn the details surrounding her death. We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we grieve.”
Goods had traveled to Las Vegas to spend time with her friend of 20 years, Roger John, who remembered her as “the nicest person you would meet.”
John, who police said is not a suspect in her disappearance, aided in the search effort by pasting flyers featuring Goods’ face around the area she was last seen.
Her family said Goods had recently undergone several surgical procedures on her legs, which would make it difficult for her to get far on foot.
After her disappearance, they grew increasingly suspicious when Goods’ disconnected cell phone started sending messages asking for money, and eventually Bitcoin.
Her daughter, Kristin, flew into town from New Jersey hoping to find her mother, even checking hospitals and morgues.
