Rise of the 'anti-Mar-a-Lago' face as plastic surgery turns political

Capitol Hill underwent a distinctly MAGA-style transformation after President Donald Trump returned to the White House.

The look—marked by heavy Botox use, a deep Miami-style tan, fuller lips and exceptionally smooth skin—was soon dubbed the “Mar-a-Lago” face.

Our News Outlet previously reported that Trump has long admired people who appear to have stepped straight out of Hollywood “central casting.” The highly feminine aesthetic associated with his inner circle is often viewed as a visible marker of status.

Among the high-profile women who have appeared to embrace elements of the style after entering the public spotlight are Kristi Noem, Laura Loomer and Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Jordan Conrad, a New York-based psychologist, previously told Our News Outlet that the trend may reflect an effort by women in Trump’s orbit to emphasize traditionally feminine characteristics. Conventional gender roles remain a powerful idea within the MAGA movement, Conrad said.

Now, however, plastic surgery specialists are seeing a contrasting aesthetic gain momentum.

It is being called the “anti-Mar-a-Lago” face.

Dr Melinda Lacerna Kimbrell, a double board-certified plastic surgeon who owns LA Plastic Surgery, spoke with Our News Outlet about the emerging look.

Kimbrell, who has carried out more than 1,000 facelifts, described the aesthetic as “relaxed rather than armored.”

“The brows sit naturally and still move, the eyes look open rather than pulled, the cheeks have shape without looking inflated, and the lips remain proportionate to the rest of the face,” she said.

“The jawline may be defined, but it should not look carved or unnaturally tight,” she added.

Above all, the “anti-Mar-a-Lago” face is intended to preserve the person’s recognizable features.

“You should notice that he or she looks rested, healthy and refreshed—not immediately begin counting the procedures,” Kimbrell explained.

“The anti-Mar-a-Lago face isn’t anti-plastic surgery. It is anti-obvious plastic surgery. It is the difference between wearing the work and benefiting from it.”

From a purely aesthetic perspective, Kimbrell pointed to Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and Lindsay Lohan as examples of a refreshed yet recognizable appearance, while stressing that their looks do not indicate whether any individual has undergone a procedure.

“Their faces remain expressive and individual rather than appearing frozen or built around the same exaggerated template,” the surgeon said.

Kimbrell said the “anti-Mar-a-Lago” look has experienced a “definite pendulum swing” in recent months, as more clients turn away from visible filler and conspicuous cosmetic work.

‘Patients are becoming much more aware of filler migration, distorted proportions and what happens when every feature is treated in isolation,’ she shared.

Discussing the MAGA makeover, she continued: ‘Politics gave the overdone look a memorable nickname but social media turned it into a warning label.

‘Women have watched celebrities and influencers become less recognizable after repeated treatments, and they do not want to make the same mistake.’

And, despite the political connotations, Dr Kimbrell believes surgery choices remain ‘deeply personal.’

‘Patients want to look fresher, but they do not want to surrender the features that make their face theirs. The new status symbol is not having the most obvious work—it is having the work no one can identify,’ she concluded.
