(Oct. 30, 2026 / JNS) A California man pleaded guilty Friday to attempting to provide material support to ISIS, the US Justice Department said.
Ammaad Akhtar, 34, sought to deliver money, weapons and other supplies to the terrorist organization between February and June 2025. During that period, he communicated with an undercover officer he believed was an ISIS member, according to the department.
Akhtar faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

In messages to the undercover agent, Akhtar said he wanted to join ISIS and “die in the cause of Allah fighting the kuffar,” an Arabic term for “infidels.” He also requested instructions for building a bomb that could “make a boom” at a crowded public event.
Akhtar met with the undercover agent in June 2025. At that meeting, he provided clothing, binoculars, $400 in cash, two loaded firearms and six additional magazines, while also pledging allegiance to ISIS.
His sentencing is set for Feb. 26, 2027.
