Moment Russell Brand says he'll make PA strip to meet Jimmy Savile

A recording has resurfaced in which Russell Brand said he would make his female assistant strip naked to meet Jimmy Savile during an unsettling exchange with the convicted paedophile.

The conversation took place during a BBC Radio 2 broadcast on May 26, 2007, when Brand offered to bring the “very attractive” woman to meet Savile.

In the clip, Brand says: “It would be nice to meet you one day, Mr Jimmy Savile.”

Savile replies: “Well, if you’ve got a sister, you could meet me by bringing her along… I don’t usually meet fellas, but if you’ve a sister that’s OK.”

Brand then says: “I haven’t got any sisters… I’ve got a personal assistant called Marsha, and part of her job description is anyone I demand she greets, meets, massages, she has to do it. She’s very attractive, Jimmy.”

Savile responds: “Well, that’s a good start. You could send her along to do some research.”

Brand asks: “Would you like her to wear anything in particular?” Savile replies: “I’d actually prefer her to wear nothing.”

Brand then confirms: “So you want Marsha, my assistant, to meet you naked. OK, well that’s not going to be a problem… nothing wrong with that.”

The recording emerged after Brand spent his first night in solitary confinement at one of Britain’s worst prisons, where a fellow inmate was reportedly carrying out a dirty protest, Our News Outlet has revealed.

The disgraced actor was taken to HMP Wandsworth in south-west London in a prison van after his conviction and placed in the Care and Separation Unit (CSU).

Brand faces a potentially lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of raping one fan and sexually assaulting three women during the height of his showbusiness career.

The 51-year-old was accused of targeting women he met while building a career as one of Britain’s best-known stand-up comedians, a high-profile television and radio presenter and a Hollywood actor.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that investigations remain ongoing into two allegations of rape made against Brand. Its chief, Sir Mark Rowley, said he would not be surprised if “many more” alleged victims came forward.

During pre-trial hearings, it was revealed that one complaint was made by a woman who dated Brand when he was 30 and she was a 16-year-old schoolgirl.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andy Burnham described Brand’s actions as “horrifying” and praised the women who had shown the “courage to speak out”. It comes as:

  • Brand said he feared going to prison during a podcast with his wife, Laura;
  • One former lover told him to “tell the truth” and said she had been wrong to trust him;
  • Questions were raised about how prominent figures on the Left had grown close to him.

At HMP Wandsworth, the CSU is the prison’s segregation and solitary confinement area. It is also known as “The Block” or “The Seg”, where high-risk inmates are held alone in their cells.

The unit is located largely below ground in what are known as the “bowels” of the Victorian prison. Brand has now been dubbed “Russell from the Block”.

Wandsworth officials reportedly decided Brand was too well-known to be placed on the Vulnerable Prisoners, or VP, wing, where many rapists and other sex offenders are held.

Brand is due to return to Southwark Crown Court on Monday for sentencing. Officials are reportedly keen to move him from Wandsworth to a more suitable prison.

Prison governors or operational managers can initially place an inmate in segregation for up to 72 hours. A review board must then decide whether the arrangement should continue.

Prisoners held in the CSU spend almost the entire day locked in their cells, with movement strictly controlled and limited opportunities for education or social contact.

The CSU at Wandsworth is regarded as one of the most unpleasant areas of the prison. The smell is reportedly especially severe when an inmate carries out a dirty protest.

A dirty protest involves deliberately smearing or throwing bodily waste—usually faeces and sometimes urine—around a cell or at prison staff.

Wandsworth has previously been described as one of Britain’s worst prisons after a series of inspection reports highlighted its ageing buildings and severe overcrowding.

Brand was reportedly “petrified” after being taken to the jail. The 51-year-old had appeared visibly shaken as the prospect of imprisonment hung over his trial, admitting he was frightened during an episode of his Sunday Service show with his wife, Laura Gallacher.

In the recording, made on October 11—the day before jury selection—Ms Gallacher, who left court in tears yesterday, read out a message from a supporter. The message told Brand that God would be with him in prison and that he would “get through it”.

Brand, who said he entered court wearing the “full armour of God”, tapped her on the shoulder and said: “I don’t like things where it’s like you might have to go to prison.”

She replied sympathetically: “Yeah, I know, but that is just the nature of what a trial is.”

Months earlier, Piers Morgan had asked Brand whether he had considered the “reality” of potentially going to prison. Brand replied: “I will be with God wherever I am.”
