Chip Gaines faces backlash after claiming that 'everybody's got money'

Chip Gaines faced criticism from social media users on Wednesday after expressing that he finds ‘money is boring’ and that ‘everybody’s got money.’

The HGTV star, 49, was participating in an online conversation regarding the future of Baylor University basketball coach Scott Drew.

As a former student of the Waco, Texas-based university, Gaines expressed his belief that Drew’s decision wouldn’t hinge on financial factors.

He tweeted to Barstool Kentucky, stating, ‘money is boring’ and ‘everybody’s got money,’ while also noting, ‘We’ve got God on our side.’

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Chip and his wife Joanna Gaines, 45, became household names through their home renovation show Fixer Upper, which aired from 2013 to 2018 on HGTV. According to a January 2022 report by Yahoo Finance, the couple’s net worth is estimated to be $50 million.

The user also said that ‘the Bible teaches us to have empathy & charity to those less fortunate,’ as ‘God appreciates prayers, he appreciates actions w/humility more,’ adding, ‘At least that my King James version.’

One user called Chip ‘someone who doesn’t have to worry about money’ while another said, ‘Chip, pass me some of that boring money. I’ll take the boredom off your hands.’

Another user said, ‘Money is boring when you have tons of it, but what about the poor that Jesus championed?

‘What about compassion and trying to help the helpless? I’d rather read the Bible than pretend God is exclusive to me.’

‘Man I love your show and all, and I absolutely get joking about basketball – but this tweet is not cool,’ the user said. ‘The majority of people in this country worry about money because they don’t have enough of it.
