A New Jersey mother is facing charges after she allegedly ran over her son with a car, killing him.

Wendy Castillo-Torres, aged 30, faces charges for causing a fatality while operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, as reported by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The charge against Castillo-Torres was declared on May 17, coinciding with the day she allegedly caused the death of her child during a car-washing incident in the driveway of a friend’s home. Jackson Township police were called to the location shortly after 6 p.m. in response to a 911 call.

Officers at the scene immediately transported the unresponsive 10-month-old, who had sustained severe injuries, to Monmouth Medical Center. Unfortunately, the infant was pronounced dead soon after arrival.

Prosecutor Billhimer reported that Castillo-Torres had put her son in a bouncer seat between two cars while washing them that day. Once she finished, she got into one of the cars to move it but accidentally shifted into drive instead of reverse. Her son, seated in the bouncer between the vehicles, became trapped and was crushed.

Castillo-Torres shifted the car into reverse upon realizing what was happening, but it was too late, the release stated.

As police investigated the incident, they determined that Castillo-Torres didn’t have a valid driver’s license.

“Our investigation indicates that this is a tragic accident, our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time,” Billhimer said.

The victim’s name has not yet been publicly released. Check back for updates.
