A proposed bill, spearheaded by Representative Jason Zachary, a Republican from Knoxville, seeks to restrict the ability of cities and counties to increase property taxes. Under this legislation, any property tax increase would be capped at 2% annually over a span of three years. However, should local governments wish to exceed this limit, they would need to secure approval from the majority of voters through a referendum.
