Karoline Leavitt snaps back at troll after sharing photo of her ballot

Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded sharply to an online critic after sharing a photo of her midterm ballot alongside a smiling selfie taken after she voted Tuesday morning.

The 29-year-old mother of two wore an “I Voted” sticker on her sweater and told followers she had cast her ballot “in my beautiful home state of New Hampshire.”

Leavitt also uploaded an image of her completed ballot. It showed that she had voted for three Republicans: Kelly Ayotte for governor, John E. Sununu for United States senator and Anthony DiLorenzo for representative in Congress.

Some social media users, however, quickly assumed the ballot had been submitted by mail rather than in person.

“So mail in ballots are ok. Great message!!” one X user wrote, incorrectly concluding that Leavitt had voted by mail.

Leavitt fired back: “This isn’t a mail in ballot. I took this picture of my ballot at the voting booth. Get lost!”

Leavitt, who welcomed her daughter Viviana earlier this year, primarily lives in New Hampshire and also owns a home in Washington, DC.

During her time working for Trump, the former press secretary was a frequent and outspoken critic of mail-in voting.

“There is blatant FRAUD with their mail-in voting system,” Leavitt said during a White House press briefing in November 2025.

“Fraudulent ballots are being mailed in under the names of other people and illegal aliens! There are countless examples. And we are looking into executive action,” she added.

About an hour after posting her ballot, Leavitt shared a link to the Republican National Committee’s election integrity website, “Protect the Vote.” The site allows users to report suspected voter fraud in their state.

“We need your help to stop voter suppression, irregularities, and fraud,” Leavitt wrote.

Leavitt and her husband, Nicholas Riccio, own properties in Washington, DC, and Florida, but their primary residence is in New Hampshire, where she was born.

In 2021, Leavitt announced her campaign for the House of Representatives in New Hampshire’s first congressional district. She ultimately lost to Democratic incumbent Chris Pappas.

Leavitt made headlines in August when she announced that she would leave her position as Trump’s press secretary, a role she took on after he won his second term in 2024.

By then, she had become a mother of two. Leavitt said her growing family was a major factor in her difficult decision to step away from the demanding White House position.

She has since confirmed that she will remain active in Republican politics as a contributor for Fox News.

“I will officially be joining Fox News as a TV contributor… so I will continue making appearances on various shows!” Leavitt explained.

“I have a couple of other projects I am working on. But mainly I am staying home and doing a whole lot of this,” the mother of two wrote alongside a photograph of herself cuddling her five-month-old daughter, Viviana.

After Leavitt left the position, Katie Zacharia was quickly named as her replacement but lasted less than a week in the job.

“The job obviously was not for her, but we wish her and her family well,” Leavitt told Fox News Digital backstage at a Turning Point USA campus tour stop at California Polytechnic State University at the time.

She said President Trump was still weighing his options for the role and that she had offered her expertise as he searched for a permanent successor.

With Zacharia gone and no replacement named, Trump currently does not have a press secretary as the administration faces the possibility of a Democratic wave in the midterm elections.

Leavitt has also discussed the preparation that went into her first White House press briefing.

“I prepared like heck for that first briefing,” she said.

“I poured myself into my preparation. I read, I studied, I talked to every Cabinet member, I talked to the president. I just absorbed as much information as this noggin up here could.”

Leavitt’s post about voting came as millions of Americans headed to polling stations for the midterm elections.

The first polls close at 6 p.m. Eastern time, while the final polling stations are scheduled to close at 1 a.m. Voters will then await the results as ballots are counted nationwide to determine whether Republicans or Democrats will control power.
