Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was seen Tuesday morning at the couple’s San Francisco home, several days after authorities said he was observed leaving the scene of an alleged hit-and-run crash in Napa Valley.
Pelosi, 86, wore an all-black San Francisco Giants cap, a blue shirt with eyeglasses hanging from the collar and dark blue pants. He was also seen carrying a bottle of Gatorlyte sports drink.
He got into a dark-colored vehicle outside the couple’s $8.7 million residence in Pacific Heights. Nancy Pelosi appeared shortly afterward, accompanied by members of her security detail.
Paul Pelosi has not been charged with a crime in connection with the alleged incident, which left his brown Maserati convertible disabled and caused significant rear-end damage to a Tesla. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has recommended that local prosecutors file a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge following the Friday crash in Yountville.
Images from the crash scene showed a black Tesla with major damage to the left rear side, along with debris strewn across the roadway.
A spokesperson for Pelosi said Saturday that Paul Pelosi had apologized to the owner of the Tesla.
“Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle,” the spokesperson said.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the 6700 block of Yount Street around 2:30 p.m. after a witness reported that a northbound vehicle had struck the back of a parked car on the shoulder.
Authorities said the impact caused major damage and forced the parked vehicle’s right tire onto the curb.
The witness told 911 dispatchers the driver briefly stopped before pulling away from the scene.
Investigators later located Pelosi on Yountville Cross Road, where his brown convertible had become disabled and was partially blocking the roadway. Officials said the vehicle sustained significant damage to its front right side.
After being contacted by deputies, Pelosi acknowledged that he had struck something but said he did not know what it was. He continued driving until his damaged vehicle stopped working, according to authorities.
Sheriff’s officials determined alcohol did not play a role in the collision. Pelosi submitted to a preliminary alcohol screening test that registered a blood alcohol content of 0.00, ruling out driving under the influence, police said.
Pelosi was not taken into custody at the scene.
The Napa County District Attorney’s Office told The California Post on Tuesday that no “charging decision has been made yet.”
The office noted they have received “partial documents” to review but are “waiting for a key report” from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office before they make a filing decision. A spokesperson noted a timeframe for a decision could be available later this week.
