Pete Hegseth lashes out in fiery video saying impeachment 'won't work'

Pete Hegseth has responded defiantly to growing impeachment talk, releasing a forceful video after speculation that he could be pushed out of the Trump administration following historic Republican defeats in the midterm elections.

President Donald Trump acknowledged after Tuesday’s devastating results that voters appeared to reject the conflict in Iran, a campaign largely overseen by Hegseth, the Secretary of War.

The political fallout has fueled speculation among insiders that Hegseth could be made the face of the so-called “bluenami” that gave Democrats control of Congress.

The secretary is also confronting two possible impeachment efforts. The first is being advanced by anti-Trump Republican Thomas Massie, who intends to force a House vote. The second could come from incoming Democrats once they gain subpoena authority.

Rumors have also circulated that Trump may remove Hegseth from his Cabinet, though the president has denied that possibility.

In a video posted to X, Hegseth stood outside the Department of War and made clear that he had no intention of stepping aside.

“We don’t back down,” the Secretary of War declared. “And that especially applies now.”

He added that “the next few months and years are critical for our department and our Republic.”

Hegseth described Trump’s military campaign against Iran as a “historic and courageous effort,” regardless of how the public may view the operation.

He also accused Democrats of being “obsessed” with pursuing a personal campaign against him and seeking his impeachment, while insisting their efforts would not succeed.

After his Chief of Staff Susie Wiles (right) and even Secretary of State Marco Rubio had been named by GOP operatives hungry for a scapegoat, it seemed Trump had settled on a different name

Pete Hegseth Says Impeachment ‘Won’t Work’ in Fiery Video Response

“The President was blindsided by the tweet,” a White House official told Our News Outlet, claiming Trump had not approved Vance’s statement before it was published

His remarks came as the White House faced mounting pressure from Republican operatives demanding accountability for the party’s midterm collapse.

Susie Wiles and Marco Rubio were initially discussed as possible targets, but Hegseth’s name soon became increasingly prominent among Washington Republicans and in reports about who could be dismissed.

White House insiders who spoke with Our News Outlet said Trump had been consulting several trusted advisers about whether Hegseth should remain in his position.

Republican sources had previously claimed that Trump was “encouraging” Governor-elect Marsha Blackburn to appoint Hegseth to her Senate seat.

If Blackburn were to resign, Governor Bill Lee could select Hegseth, potentially giving Trump time to secure confirmation for a new Pentagon chief before Democrats take control of the Senate in January.

“Trump is making phone calls, contemplating it,” a senior Republican said. However, by early Thursday, Trump maintained that he had “every intention to keep him.”

According to one source, the central concern surrounding Hegseth is not the Iran war itself—an operation now blamed by several conservatives, including Vice President JD Vance, for Tuesday’s Republican losses—but the information Trump received about it. The source said the president repeatedly learned of major developments in the Persian Gulf only after they had occurred.

“The President was blindsided by the tweet,” a White House official told Our News Outlet, saying Trump had not authorized Vance’s message before it was posted.

Meanwhile, the contest for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination is already gathering momentum.

With the first nominating contests just over a year away, Republicans are preparing to choose their first presidential nominee who is not Trump since 2012.

Vance’s prospects appeared to take a sharp hit within a single day. One thing is now unmistakable: if he hopes to win the presidency in 2028, he will face a fierce fight for the nomination.

“The reason we lost is the war,” Vance wrote on X Wednesday, pointing to polling that indicated some Trump voters had switched their support to Democrats.
