A 31-year-old pregnant woman was killed in what authorities describe as a targeted shooting carried out by a 17-year-old at a Spirit Halloween store.
Constance Hages, 31, died Friday night after a gunman opened fire inside the Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California.
In a statement posted to Facebook, the Fairfield Police Department said preliminary findings indicated that “the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a targeted incident.”
Police said the teenager entered the store and, once inside, encountered another customer whom investigators believe was the intended target.
The teen allegedly drew a firearm and fired multiple rounds, striking Hages and several other people. Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive.
Six other people were also injured in the gunfire before the suspect fled the store, reportedly leaving the area just minutes before officers arrived.
Emergency crews responded and attempted to save Hages, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A school resource officer identified the teenager within hours of the shooting after recognizing him as a former student.
Detectives later found the suspect at a residence in Suisun City, where he was taken into custody.

He faces murder and attempted murder charges in connection with the attack.
The Fairfield Police Department said four of the six surviving victims remained hospitalized and were receiving treatment.
A 19-year-old man was in critical condition. A 16-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man, and a 32-year-old man were listed in stable condition.

According to Our News Outlet, the Fairfield shooting was unrelated to the killing of a 21-year-old Michigan man at a Spirit Halloween store in Madison Heights.
Because the suspect is a minor, officials will not release his name or photographs.
Hages’ aunt, Clanisha Morton, created a GoFundMe campaign to help the family. She wrote that the loss had left behind four children, grieving parents, and relatives facing “a pain that words can barely hold.”
“Constance was deeply loved, and her absence has created an overwhelming void in the lives of everyone who knew and cherished her,” Morton wrote.
The family is asking the public for prayers, compassion, and any assistance they can provide.
