Big Bend Border Construction Pause Extended to Mid-September

WASHINGTON — The federal government told a court Friday it will keep border-related construction on hold in Big Bend National Park until mid-September, extending a temporary pause that opponents of the controversial Texas border project hailed as a meaningful reprieve.

Customs and Border Protection had already stopped work after CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott traveled to the park last week to meet with local officials. The visit followed public backlash after bulldozers began cutting through portions of the remote South Texas park, alarming residents, conservation advocates and tribal leaders.
