A disturbing video recently surfaced on Mackenzie Shirilla’s private Instagram account, capturing her mourning the boyfriend she had killed, only to be swiftly removed moments later.
At 22, Shirilla is serving two simultaneous 15-years-to-life prison terms for causing the deaths of Dominic Russo, 20, and their mutual friend Davison Flanagan, 18. The tragic incident occurred on July 31, 2022, when she crashed her car into a brick wall at over 100 mph, resulting in their immediate deaths.
Critics have harshly criticized Shirilla for her apparent lack of remorse regarding the fatal incident.
The video portrays Shirilla tearfully laying flowers at Russo’s grave while wearing a neck brace, shortly after the accident. An AI-generated voiceover in the footage asserts that the public perceives “Mackenzie Shirilla showed no remorse and no sadness after the car accident.”
The narration further claims, “But they definitely lied about that.”
In another segment, Shirilla is seen pouring beer into a glass accompanied by the caption “sippin 4 you.”
A still frame photo also depicts her smelling a shirt with the caption, “I found one of his shirts. It smells just like him,” referring to her dead boyfriend.
The video was deleted about 20 minutes after it was posted to social media.
Shirilla’s Instagram account is believed to be controlled by her parents.
The deadly driver repeatedly asked her mother from jail to change her Instagram bio to “#freekenzie” — and the voiceover video was most likely posted with Shirilla’s consent.
Many prisoners at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, where Shirilla is behind bars, keep scrapbooks which they typically fill with photos of loved ones.
However, a woman who was in a relationship with Shirilla, said she only had photos of herself and a clipped photo of a brick wall with the word “BOOM” inscribed on it.
“She didn’t have any pictures of Dom or Davion,” the former lover, who goes by the name Anastasia, told the Daily Mail.
“I feel like that was cold.”
Shirilla’s parents, meanwhile, claim their daughter is innocent.
She will not face the possibility of parole until 2037.
