Ford recalls nearly 1.4 million pickup trucks due to gearshift issue

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of nearly 1.4 million F-150 pickup trucks due to a gearshift malfunction that poses an increased crash risk, as highlighted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Regulatory authorities have reported that a signal disruption between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module in certain F-150 models can lead to an unexpected downshift into second gear, thus potentially causing drivers to lose control of the vehicle.

The recall targets F-150 models with six-speed automatic transmissions manufactured from March 12, 2014, to August 18, 2017.

According to NHTSA’s recall documentation, drivers might notice a malfunction indicator light or a wrench light on their vehicle’s dashboard, indicating a possible issue with the transmission range sensor.

Ford has recognized two injuries and a single accident that may be connected to this transmission problem, as noted by NHTSA.

Starting April 27, the Michigan-based automaker will send notifications to affected vehicle owners. These owners will be able to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealership to have the necessary components of their F-150 either updated or replaced.
