Just hours before U.S. military aircraft were scheduled to soar over Washington, D.C., a new app debuted to help Americans follow the massive Fourth of July flyovers as they happen.
Developed by senior White House official Shawn Chittle, the “4th of July Fly Over” app is intended to serve as a digital guide for crowds gathered along the National Mall and near the Washington Monument.
To help viewers stay in sync with the rapid sequence of aerial displays, the app includes an adjustable countdown clock tied to the official event schedule.

Should the flyovers move ahead of schedule or fall behind, users can manually update the timer, allowing the app to show which aircraft is expected next.
The tool also gives spectators access to images, historical background and quick facts about the iconic aircraft passing overhead.
The app is positioned as a key resource for following the “Freedom 250” lineup, a program featuring more than nine hours of aerial demonstrations.

Just after 7 p.m., Air Force One will fly over, followed at 7:17 p.m. by a “HUGE 1” flyover led by the newly renovated Air Force One.
In the evening, there will be a U.S. Stealth Airpower flyover at 7:38 p.m. An F-22 Raptor afterburner display will follow at 7:53 p.m. and B-1 bombers in afterburner at 8:07 p.m.
Users can see advanced details about the aircraft that will be taking the skies in Washington, D.C.
For spectators staying out late, a B-1 afterburner night pass will light up the sky at 10:36 p.m.
Observers can bookmark the app or add it directly to their mobile home screens to ensure they do not miss a single moment of the patriotic event.
