Palmdale Street shooting on Jacksonville's Northwest side leaves man dead

In the early hours of Saturday, a man in his early 40s found himself the victim of a shooting incident during a party in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the case, which took a dangerous turn around midnight.

Officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Wrico Drive at approximately 5:45 a.m., responding to reports of a man who had been shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to his upper thigh.

Despite the severity of the situation, the man was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, and his condition has been deemed non-life-threatening. The exact location of the party, however, remains a mystery as the investigation unfolds.

Sgt. Johnson of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shared that preliminary findings indicate the man was attending a party when he encountered two individuals. A confrontation ensued, during which one of the men reportedly brandished a firearm and shot the victim in the leg. Following the shooting, both suspects fled the scene.

At present, the only description provided by the victim is of two Black males. The authorities have yet to determine the direction in which the suspects escaped, and the search for them continues.

“The only suspect description provided by the victim is two black males,” Johnson said. “The direction of travel for the two suspects is unknown at this time.”

Johnson said detectives and officers canvassed the area where the shooting was believed to have happened, but were unable to locate a crime scene. He added that the victim stated he was shot around midnight, though officers were not notified until several hours later.

JSO is actively investigating the shooting. Anyone with information on it is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
