Santa Clarita, California, a community that has endured several major wildfires in recent years, is once again facing a dangerous blaze. The city previously saw the 2016 Sand Fire, which claimed two lives and scorched 41,000 acres, as well as the 2019 Tick Fire, which burned 4,600 acres and forced 40,000 residents to evacuate. Now, officials say the area is dealing with the “Max Fire,” which ignited Monday afternoon and led to a shelter-in-place order.
Images and video captured earlier in the day showed the conditions on the ground as the fire spread.
Reporting from the Los Angeles Times noted that this blaze is one of several active fires currently burning across Southern California.
The city’s most recent update, posted at 7:02 p.m. Pacific Time, provided additional details on the situation.
Officials also announced that evacuation warnings have since been lifted.
Residents continue to hope for swift containment, while the community keeps first responders and everyone impacted in their thoughts as crews work to bring the fire under control.
