Viswashkumar Ramesh, the sole person to make it through the flight that tragically went down shortly after departing from Ahmedabad in India on Thursday, called his survival a “miracle” during a conversation with DD India.

“I can’t explain,” he said.

The ill-fated Boeing 787-8 was on a flight path to London Gatwick Airport, as Air India outlined in a announcement on X, highlighting that there were 242 individuals aboard but “241 confirmed fatalities.”

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those on board Air India Flight 171, as well as everyone affected by this tragedy in Ahmedabad,” expressed Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg in an official statement.

“I have spoken with Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran to offer our full support, and a Boeing team stands ready to support the investigation led by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau,” he noted.
