Following a record-breaking theatrical run, “Toy Story 5” is now ready to stream at home.
The film’s stars are reflecting on the franchise’s remarkable success and explaining why the fifth chapter has connected with both children and their parents.
“This year has been a complete dream,” says Scarlett Spears, who voices Bonnie. “More than a dream.”
“Seriously, it’s been crazy,” adds Mykal-Michelle Harris, the voice of Blaze.
The two young performers are newcomers to the “Toy Story” universe, but they quickly formed a close friendship offscreen.
“I feel like Bonnie and Blaze are the same as Scarlett and I,” Harris says. “We’re best friends in person, too.”
The actresses also see parts of themselves in their characters, having grown up during the shift from traditional toys to an increasingly tech-focused world.
Tony Hale reprises his role as Forky, the beloved plastic utensil who became a toy.
“When I heard that Forky had a little bit in this new one, I got excited because I want more of Forky,” Hale says. “I want more of that wonder.”
“Toy Story 5” set a new box-office benchmark, earning more than $1.3 billion worldwide.
“I was asked recently: ‘Were you shocked by the success?'” Hale says. “It’s so timely. Parents and kids are dealing with that crossroad of technology, and the way that they just put it out there, it was so creative. They walked that line of saying, ‘Hey, we’re not bashing it, but nothing’s going to replace true connection.'”
That focus on connection is echoed by Snappy, a new digital-camera character voiced by Shelby Rabara.
“Joining the ‘Toy Story’ legacy, just wow,” Rabara says. “It was a dream come true. Honestly, a dream come true.”
After drawing audiences to theaters around the world, the cast says they are excited that fans can now experience “Toy Story 5” from home.
“I think it’s just a great movie to watch with your family,” Harris says.
“And then, after you’re done watching ‘Toy Story,’ you will want to play with your toys, and run outside and play,” Spears adds. “Everyone should watch it. It’s awesome.”
“Toy Story 5” begins streaming on Disney+ September 23.
