A tragic incident occurred at Orlando International Airport when a Delta Airlines employee lost their life after a vehicle collided with a jet bridge on the tarmac.
The accident unfolded at approximately 10:55 p.m. on Thursday when a “tug,” a vehicle used for towing aircraft, crashed into a passenger boarding bridge connected to Delta Flight 2593, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration.
In response to the fatal accident, Delta temporarily suspended operations at their Orlando station to facilitate an investigation by the authorities.
“The Delta family is deeply saddened by the loss of a team member in the line of duty. We are collaborating with local authorities as a comprehensive investigation begins to uncover the details of this incident,” Delta stated in an announcement to The Post.
Following the crash, passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft using the rear door, and the flight was subsequently canceled. The FAA confirmed to The Post that no aircraft were directly involved in the crash.
The Orlando Police Department is conducting an investigation to determine if there was any misconduct involved; however, preliminary evidence points to the incident being “accidental in nature,” according to WFTV 9.
“The investigation is taking place within the airside terminal and is having minimal impact on airport operations,” the department told the outlet.
