‘Criminal alien’ duo charged in deadly Connecticut home invasion as DHS moves to yank green cards

The Department of Homeland Security is moving to strip two Dominican nationals of their green cards after they were charged in connection with a fatal home invasion in Connecticut, News Outlet has learned.

DHS said Thursday that Ivan Antonio Barias-Florimon, 24, and Stuar Jose Lopez-Reyes, 25, are both from the Dominican Republic, describing each suspect as a “criminal alien.”

Authorities allege the two men forced their way into a beach house in Milford, Connecticut, where a married couple was shot. Fredrick Werner, 69, was killed by multiple gunshot wounds, while his wife remains hospitalized as she recovers from a gunshot wound to the head.

The deadly attack took place on June 3.

The suspects were taken into custody days apart after investigators obtained arrest warrants on July 28. Lopez-Reyes was arrested two days later by U.S. Marshals working with police in Milford and New Haven.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force announced that Barias-Florimon had been captured in the Bronx.

According to DHS, Barias-Florimon entered the United States in 2007 as the son of a lawful permanent resident.

Lopez-Reyes entered the country on a visa in November 2016 during the Obama administration. DHS said he was arrested in 2021 on charges of criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing and was ultimately convicted of disorderly conduct.

DHS said Lopez-Reyes was granted lawful permanent resident status in October 2022 during the Biden administration.

“Possessing a green card is a privilege, not a right,” DHS said. “Under our nation’s laws, our government has the authority to revoke a green card if our laws are broken and abused.”
