Lane Bryant shooting: Tinley Park murders of 5 women remain unsolved 18 years later

This Monday marked the somber 18th anniversary of a tragic event that still haunts the community of Tinley Park, Illinois. It was on February 2, 2008, when a horrifying crime unfolded at the Lane Bryant store, leaving five women dead and a town searching for answers.

On that fateful Saturday morning, a man entered the store located on 191st Street, disguised as a delivery worker. Under this guise, he managed to gather four customers along with two employees, binding them in the store’s back room.

In a cruel turn of events, the man opened fire, resulting in the deaths of five women. Remarkably, one victim survived the ordeal, able to provide crucial testimony about the incident.

The lives lost that day were Carrie Chiuso from Frankfort, Rhoda McFarland from Joliet, Connie R. Woolfolk from Flossmoor, Sarah T. Szafranski from Oak Forest, and Jennifer L. Bishop from South Bend, Indiana. Each of these women left behind grieving communities and families.

Rhoda McFarland, who was the store manager, played a pivotal role during the crisis. Her quick thinking led to a 911 call that alerted the authorities to the unfolding tragedy. Despite the first officer arriving on the scene within a mere two minutes, the devastating act had already been committed.

Its been 18 years since five women were shot to death inside a Tinley Park Lane Bryant store.

To this day, the case remains unsolved, leaving a void and a lingering sense of injustice for the victims’ families and the broader community. The memory of that day serves as a chilling reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring quest for justice.

Investigators do believe someone is out there that knows something — someone who maybe didn’t feel comfortable talking back then, but who will someday come forward.

A $100,000 reward is still being offered for any information that leads to an arrest.
