Scoop Waukegan shooting: Person shot during car culture event at Genesee, Washington streets, Waukegan Alderman Victor Felix says

WAUKEGAN, Ill. () — One person was hurt in a shooting Saturday evening that brought a car culture event in Waukegan to an early close, according to a local alderman.

Waukegan 4th Ward Alderman Victor Felix said the shooting occurred at the site of Scoop Waukegan.

The event was shut down following the incident. In a post on social media, Felix said the person who was shot was being treated by medical personnel.

Saturday marked the second day of the event, which had been scheduled to run from noon until 9 p.m.

Scoop Waukegan organizers later addressed attendees in a statement, thanking supporters for their turnout over the weekend.
They acknowledged that Saturday’s festivities ended sooner than expected.

Organizers said they were grateful for the strong response from the community and the support shown throughout the event.

They described this year’s Scoop as one of the largest to date, with downtown Waukegan filled with cars, enthusiasts and a high-energy crowd.

Organizers also urged anyone planning to come downtown to stay away, saying vehicles would no longer be allowed into the festival area as the event wrapped up for the year.

“Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and helped make Scoop such a success. We can’t wait to see you all again next year!”

No further information about the shooting was immediately available.

This is a developing story.
