JSO: Attempted burglary at Jacksonville Westside home ends in man shot

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing to determine the scenario that left the man hospitalized.

A man is recuperating after being shot during an attempted house burglary on Monday afternoon, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police stated that at approximately 12:10 p.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of Cahoon Road South following a report of a shooting incident. Upon arrival, they encountered a homeowner who claimed an individual tried to force entry into his residence.

A short time later, police said officers were notified that a man in his mid-30s had walked into an urgent care with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and took the man to the hospital, where he is now in “stable” condition.

According to the initial findings, the investigation reveals that a man tried to burglarize the home and encountered the homeowner. However, investigators have not confirmed whether it was the homeowner who fired the shot, nor have they clarified if the shooting victim was the person attempting the break-in.

However, police said this is an isolated incident and all parties involved have been detained.

JSO said the investigation is ongoing to determine the scenario that left the man hospitalized.

Anyone with additional details about the shooting is urged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500, send an email to jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org, or call the First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
