BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Here is a full timeline of the death of Jabari Peoples and the resulting investigation:

June 23: An 18-year-old named Jabari Peoples was shot by a Homewood police officer during a reported confrontation outside the Homewood Soccer Park at 9:30 p.m. He was later transported to UAB Hospital.

June 24: People was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m. the morning after the shooting.

June 25: The Homewood Police Department issued its initial statement regarding the shooting of Peoples, stating that he had reached for a gun before being shot by the officer.

July 8: Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing Peoples’ family, called for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to release the bodycam footage of the incident.

July 11: The city of Homewood submitted a request for ALEA to disclose the bodycam footage. At that time, ALEA declined to release it, citing the ongoing investigation.

Aug. 6: Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr declared the shooting of Peoples justified. Carr stated that after reviewing footage of the incident, it was evident that Peoples was holding a gun before being shot.
