Officer injured by thrown object trying to arrest suspect at Bronx subway station

A New York City police officer was injured on Thursday while attempting to arrest an assault suspect when the individual hurled an object, hitting the officer in the head at a Bronx subway station, authorities reported.

The officer received a minor cut from the unidentified object during the incident in the mezzanine of the Fordham Road subway station near East 188th Street in the Fordham area around 5:24 p.m., officials stated.

The injured officer was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.

Following the assault, the suspect fled the scene on foot, according to police. As of Thursday night, he had not been captured.

The suspect, identified as a 41-year-old man, was sought in connection with a stabbing that took place over 2 miles away at East 167th Street and Gerard Avenue in the Concourse neighborhood earlier in the day, shortly after noon, police said.

The victim of the stabbing was treated at BronxCare Hospital Center and is in stable condition, though he declined to assist police with their investigation, a source revealed.
