In Chicago, police have detained a person of interest following a tragic shooting on the city’s Southwest Side, which resulted in the death of a 17-year-old. The shooting, which occurred Wednesday morning, also left two adults injured.
The victim has been identified by family members as Pedro Ramirez. His untimely death has left loved ones grappling with shock and sorrow.
Adelynn Peña, Ramirez’s girlfriend, expressed her devastation, saying, “One moment you’re having a conversation, and the next, he’s just gone. It’s incredibly difficult to process that I’ll never see him again.”
Peña is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her boyfriend, who was taken from her in such a violent manner.
Pedro Ramirez was not only a beloved partner but also a dedicated student, known for his straight-A grades and status as an honor-roll student at Tilden High School.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the teenager was shot multiple times in the 5000-block of South Throop Street, located in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
A small memorial is growing near the scene.
“He always said, ‘I will never miss school unless I’m very sick, or unless I’m dying,’” said Mario Rosales, Ramirez’s best friend. “He actually died, so it really hurts my heart about those words that he said now.”
Police said two men in a van were also shot and are recovering. Officers chased down the suspects a few blocks away.
A GoFundMe for Ramirez’s family can be found here.
