A former top official of the CIA has found himself at the center of a stunning scandal after the FBI discovered an incredible fortune hidden within his Virginia home. According to reports, agents uncovered $40 million worth of gold bars during their raid.
Last week, federal authorities executed a search of David Rush’s residence, unearthing an astonishing 303 gold bars. In addition to this, they discovered $2 million in cash and nearly three dozen luxury Rolex watches, as detailed in court documents and reported by The New York Times.
Rush, who recently held a “senior executive service-level” position within the CIA, is said to have requested these substantial sums of gold and foreign currency between November and March, supposedly for “work-related expenses.”
However, a routine audit by the agency revealed the assets were missing from official custody, leading the CIA Director to escalate the issue to federal authorities for further investigation.
“After a C.I.A. internal investigation identified potential violations of the law, C.I.A. Director John Ratcliffe referred the information to the F.B.I. for a law enforcement investigation,” the CIA and FBI stated in a joint release to the Times.
Efforts have been made by The Post to contact both agencies for additional comments on the unfolding situation.
Rush is currently only charged with inflating his college resume and scamming the government out of military leave pay after he allegedly falsely claimed to be a member of the Navy Reserve.
He is currently being held in federal custody.
