Newly prominent socialist candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier abruptly left a live radio interview after facing questions about controversial social media posts criticized as anti-Dominican. Hours later, the Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidate delivered a major upset, defeating five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat and positioning herself as the likely favorite in the November race.

 Ambassador George Deek says Israel’s Christian population has expanded from about 34,000 people in 1948 to more than 180,000 today, as he continues efforts to deepen relationships with Christian leaders around the world.

The watchdog group North American Values Institute is calling on the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture to withdraw from a retreat that includes a workshop co-facilitated by Ismael Jimenez. NAVI cited concerns about Jimenez’s curriculum, activist affiliations and anti-Israel statements, including his description of Israel as a “terrorist state,” warning that the museum’s participation could be seen as legitimizing antisemitism.

The Justice Department has opened a civil rights investigation into Brooklyn’s Poetica Coffee after the business criticized Rep. Dan Goldman online over his support for Israel. The cafe refunded Goldman’s purchase and said it would not serve what it called “genocide enablers.” Federal officials have cautioned that refusing service based on religion or national origin can violate anti-discrimination law.

A Florida man has been indicted for allegedly planning a violent attack at the pro-Israel nonprofit AIPAC. Prosecutors say Forrest Pemberton, who was armed with an AR-15 and a silencer, surveilled the empty office and spoke of wanting to “break the loop” before investigators tracked him through cellphone data. He faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted of the attempted hate crime.
