Fare-Evading Goats Returned Home After Boarding Portland Bus During Morning Commute

They’ve hoofed it back to where they’re supposed to be.

The pair of crafty goats that briefly attempted to board a public bus in Portland have been safely returned to their owner.

Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon, better known as TriMet, said the tiny troublemakers were identified as two pygmy goats named “Billy the Kid” and “Billy the Goat” after their caught-on-camera bus adventure made the rounds online.

The transit agency confirmed the wandering duo is now home after their unexpected rush-hour cameo turned into a viral social media moment.

Following the goats’ brief escape, their owner has repaired the gate to their enclosure, helping make sure the “adventurous goats are safe and sound,” TriMet said Thursday.

Newly shared video from inside the bus shows the goats slipping aboard just as the doors were closing Tuesday morning, leaving Portland commuters visibly surprised during the busy commute.

“Some goats just got on,” one astonished passenger can be heard telling another.

The bus driver quickly noticed the unexpected fare dodgers and opened the doors again so the goats could step back off.

“It was the most strange thing [that] happened to me in my modest career,” the bus’ operator Abdellah L. said in an interview with the transit agency shared on Friday.

Abdellah said he was “a little bit nervous” as he didn’t know how the goats would behave aboard his bus.

“So I was going to secure my bus and try to get them out of the bus. And one of the passengers volunteered and get them out of the bus,” he said.

“It was funny, I think they did not have the valid pass or valid hop, that’s why they left right away,” Abdellah quipped.

The bus operator rated the pair of pygmy’s an eleven out of ten “because they did great and as soon the passenger told them to leave, they left quietly and safely.”

The transit agency has since released a t-shirt featuring Billy and Billy as a “nod to one of our favorite moments in TriMet history.”

“The internet’s favorite TriMet passengers have officially made it to a T-shirt,” the website says.

“Whether you followed the story on Insta or just love a good goat pun, this shirt is a fun way to show your TriMet pride.”
